Human Disturbance
“Those who have the privilege to know have the duty to act”
Saturday, APRIL 30
Sunday, May 1
Consuming Kinetics Dance Company’s (CKDC) spring 2022 concert, Human Disturbance is an interrogation of humankind’s impact on Earth. Through the medium of contemporary dance, Human Disturbance explores topics including climate change, material resource consumption, wildlife preservation, and natural disaster. Our choreographers investigate many of the challenges we face on our planet today while also proposing approaches to address these concerns. In Human Disturbance, we acknowledge the duality of humankind’s destructive and creative impact on the planet; we hold loss, chaos, and apocalypse together with abundance, possibility, and regeneration. You can click to see our 2021 preview program below. Our full 2022 program will be uploaded here by April 30, 2022.
Meet Our Choreographers
Kat Norton
Kat is CKDC’s Associate Director and is presenting her long anticipated full-length piece, The Beckoning. The Beckoning was previewed in 2021 at Oak Knoll Park and celebrates the symbiotic relationship between plants and pollinators, and acknowledges the plant’s innate need for the pollinator, and the pollinator’s innate need for the plant. Learn more about this incredible work in our Human Disturbance program, where you can also find resources on how to make a positive impact.
Ashreale McDowell
Ashreale is CKDC’s Assistant Artistic Director. Her piece, Acted On By Force, was premiered in Oak Knoll Park in 2021. Acted On By Force recognizes climate change as the single greatest challenge of our time.
Arica Brown
Arica is CKDC’s Founder, Artistic and Executive Director and is presenting two works in this concert. Our opening piece, Birds Of Play in created in collaboration with the World Bird Sanctuary and includes and educational component to help us understand how we can better serve wildlife in our region and beyond. Arica’s second piece, Possible Outcomes opens with five junior company artists waking up from worldwide devastation and navigating survival in this new, dystopian reality. Our professional company artists come in halfway through the dance, offering a more positive outcome for these young characters, if only we act now to care for our planet.
